Living in Arizona is good, fun, exciting, and full of beautiful places to explore! And right now....The good weather is here !!!! So we finally got the kids loaded up in the van and headed out to do some hiking and family bonding time together! Camp Verde was not our destination.... we found some great trails in Prescott but it took us forever to get out of bed this Sunday and we left the house waaaaaaaay late. So we had to make some adjustments while getting gas and found a closer spot and a shorter hike that the kids seemed to like from the pictures (the "All Trails" app is AWESOME download it now). So the kids chose the McDonald Trail because they love the pictures with the little caves.
It is literally just outside of Camp Verde, only about 5-7 minutes off the I-17, there is no real parking or anything not any BIG signs, you just have to stop where the GPS says to stop, and you will see the sign and the entry just past the fence. It's only about 1 mile each way, it starts out pretty easy, nice little hike, and as you get closer to the caves, you have the final push ...which is pretty much straight up, so we did break a sweat during that last stretch and even ran out of breath there for a minute lol .
Once we got there, the kids really enjoyed, we climbed up into the little caves, explored around, the kids crawled through some smaller holes going from one cave to another and so on.
We spent about half an hour up there but didn't go to all the caves all the way down, we only went about half way through as we were planning on doing a second short trail in town down along the creek.
Here are some pictures, I hope you enjoy it and please don't hesitate to reach out for any questions that I can help you with if you decide to go out there :)
PLUS: there is a restaurant YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO TRY while in Camp Verde, one of the best EVER!!!!
